My first living experience living in Atlanta was renting from a condo ownere. It was quite pleasant...and they are usually more lenient on rent due dates, etc.
Maybe you could give the LA profession a collective "fafanoppoli" and go that route?
And where would I find this rare breed of condo owneres?
Well...you could look on craigslist, but as we've seen, the quality isn't always there. I found these folks on ajchomefinder.com
You have to fish through some ads from your favorite apartment hawkers, but there are usually some good finds.

Oh yeah, the vehicle address. That is the worst feeling and I hope everything works out here soon! At least summer's coming (oh wait, that's worse for you in the south, never mind, you better hurry up and find a new home!)
